And we're off...

It's official. Snowmaking began for the 2007/2008 season this morning at 4 am. The crews were out on Buckhorn and the Summit, and well as the Northwest corner of the Glades Peak Quad. You can bet as long as temperatures permit, we'll be out there full tilt in anticipation of opening day. Stay tuned...the countdown is officially on.
Look for a slideshow of great photos within the hour on Okemo.com!

Snowmaking, finally!!!

I've been wokring out with my sportcord (deep knee bends and such), doing lunges an chopping firewood to get in shape plus getting my house ready for winter.....and waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the temperatures to drop. Well, it finally happened! Last night Okemo finally turned on the snowguns last night. They blasted snow up at the summit....and the compressors are still running this morning. cool! Remember to do your cold weather dance, scheduled opening day is right around the corner.

The million dollar question...

When will snowmaking begin? There is a lot of buzz here in Vermont as a few mountains have taken the plunge into snowmaking. We got some really cold temperatures for a day or two, but then they showed moderation. In fact, temps today and tomorrow are expected to top out near 55 or 60 degrees. Soooo...we are looking at possibly firing up by the end of this weekend and into next week. So don't worry, we're still on target for a November 17 opening, and there is nothing I trust more than the snowmaking prowess of head Okemo snowmaker Barry Tucker. He's been in this business for longer than I've been alive and he's got it down to a science, literally.
